While much is known about the cell types present across hematopoiesis, very little is known about proteins that exist within these cells. Top-down proteomics allows complete characterization of the individual proteoforms present within a biological sample. The Kelleher Research Group at Northwestern University has undertaken a multi-year study to catalog proteoforms across hematopoiesis, supported by the Paul G Allen Family Foundation. More information about this study can be found in a recent article published in Science.
